Sporting Kansas City II News Release
Sporting Kansas City II (1-5-4, 7 points) will continue their busy stretch of four matches in 11 days when they visit Central Division rivals OKC Energy FC (1-4-4, 7 points) on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. CT showdown at Taft Stadium. The USL Championship contest will stream live on ESPN Plus as the longtime foes meet for the second time this season.
Sporting KC II took a narrow 2-1 loss to Indy Eleven on Sunday afternoon at Children's Mercy Park. Enoch Mushagalusa bagged his third goal in as many games for the hosts, but Indy emerged victorious behind strikes in either half from Nicky Law and Gordon Wild.
Mushagalusa and Sporting KC homegrown forward Tyler Freeman lead SKC II with three goals apiece this season. Head coach Paulo Nagamura's side endured a slow offensive start to the campaign, scoring twice in their first six games, but the attack has sizzled since the turn of June with 10 goals over the last four matches.
OKC Energy FC opened their 2021 campaign with an 0-4-4 record, prompting the club to part ways with head coach John Pascarella. Energy FC bounced into the win column for the first time this year thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 result at Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, which saw midfield playmaker Villyan Bijev bury the decisive goal in the 18th minute.
SKC II and Energy FC first met on May 7 at Children's Mercy Park when the clubs played to a 1-1 stalemate. Frank Lopez fired the visitors ahead on an assist from Bijev, but SKC II drew level in the 84th minute when Freeman turned home Mushagalusa's low cross. The familiar foes will meet twice more later this year, battling in Oklahoma City on July 24 and in Kansas City on Sept. 4.
