Preview: Detroit Waza Flo Pro v. Stockton Cougars

Waza Flo News Release

Waza (4-8) has another chance this weekend to send shockwaves through the PASL when it takes on Western Division leaders the Stockton Cougars (7-3) Sunday night at 7:00 P.M. at Compuware Sports Arena.

The match will serve as the back-end of a double header with the Detroit Ignition who take on the Milwaukee Wave at 4:35 P.M.

After an exhilarating 6-1 win over Eastern Division leaders and previously undefeated 1790 Cincinnati on January 25, Waza has enjoyed two weeks off, giving the team's players a chance to rest any knocks suffered in previous matches.

"The time off has been good for us," Co-coach Dominic Scicluna said after training. "Our players are well rested and following a strong week of practice we should be refreshed and ready to put up a good fight."

Waza is hoping the period of rest will give the team a big advantage over the visitors who will be playing their third match in four days. Following a 17-3 hammering by La Raza de Monterrey last Friday, the same two teams play again in Stockton on Thursday night. The Cougars then board a plane for Columbus, Ohio and will drive to Cincinnati for a showdown between America's top two teams on Saturday night. Stockton then drives into Detroit for Sunday's contest.

"Hopefully Stockton will come into Compuware with fatigued legs," defender Adam Nesbitt said after practice. "Against a team like Stockton, you take advantage of anything you can and you need to make it count."

Nesbitt and the rest of the Waza defense will need to bunker down against attackers such as Brian Farber (21 goals and 13 assist), Aaron Susi (18 goals and 13 assists) and player coach Bernie Lilavois who leads the team in points with 20 goals and 18 assists.

While co-coach Dominic Scicluna has yet to release this weekend's line-up, the general consensus is that a line-up similar to the one fielded in the victory over Cincinnati is expected. Consistency is key, especially when all of Waza's most dangerous players are fit, allowing for the strongest possible squad to take the carpet this weekend.
