Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - John Snowden became the first player to sign a contract with the Bloomington PrairieThunder for the 2010-11 season, head coach Jarrod Skalde announced Thursday.
Snowden, a 6-foot, 210-pound forward, finished last season with the PrairieThunder after being acquired in a trade with Dayton along with Preston Briggs for Greg McCauley. Snowden played in 15 games at U.S. Cellular Coliseum, netting eight goals with six assists for 14 points. He had two game-winning goals.
He finished 17th overall in scoring in the International Hockey League with 58 points in 74 games when combining his numbers at Dayton and Bloomington. The Everett (Wash.) native scored 44 points with Dayton on 21 goals and 23 assists in 59 games.
Snowden will be embarking on his eighth season in professional hockey. He began his career with the Texas Wildcatters in 2003-04 after playing with the U.S. National Under-18 team for two years and the U.S. Junior National team for one year.
He has spent the majority of his time in the ECHL, playing with Greenville, Reading and Idaho. His two best seasons were with the Texas Wildcatters in 2004-05 with 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points and with Greenville the following year. He scored 27 goals with 37 assists for a career-high 64 points.
"John is a veteran leader, who has excelled throughout his career, especially in the ECHL," said Skalde. "He is well-respected by his teammates and brings a high level of professionalism with him. The fact that he possesses strong leadership qualities and his ability to work with younger players will prove to be a big part of our success."
Snowden also played one season with the Rosenheim Star Bulls in Germany and with the Rocky Mountain Rage and Amarillo Gorillas in the CHL before heading to Dayton. He has played three games in the AHL, one with Utah and two with Norfolk.
