BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Defenseman Jeff Mushaluk and wing Shawn Roed signed to play with the United Hockey League's Bloomington PrairieThunder, head coach Derek Booth announced Friday. Mushaluk played for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League last season, while Roeds is formerly of the Tulsa Oilers, also a CHL team.

During the 2005-06 season, Mushaluk played in 64 games with the Valley Killer Bees, scoring six goals and notching 23 assists for a total of 29 points. Mushaluk led all Rio Grande defensemen in scoring and clocked 69 penalty minutes. He played collegiate hockey for three years, first at Lake Superior State University during 2001-02, and than for the University of Maine for the two years before his professional hockey debut in the 2005-06 season.

"Jeff decided to come play for us in Bloomington, and we are extremely happy to have him," said PrairieThunder Head Coach Derek Booth. "He decided this was the best fit for him to be called up to in the UHL, and he will be a true asset to our defensive core."

Roed spent last season hitting the ice for 46 games, 19 of which were with the Tulsa Oilers, and recorded 11 goals and 17 assists for a total of 28 points. He played collegiate hockey for one season at the University of Minnesota in 1999-00, before moving to the Western Hockey League to play with the Portland Winter Hawks for three seasons. During his third season with the Winter Hawks Roed posted a career-best with 62 points in 68 games.

"Shawn is a small, feisty guy who is very tenacious on the ice," said Booth. "He will bring an edge to the kind of hockey we play here, and has an excellent goal-scoring touch."

Mushaluk is originally from Armstrong, B.C. and Roed is a native of White Bear Lake, Minn.
