PrairieThunder earn victory over Port Huron

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Jon Booras' goal with 56 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Bloomington PrairieThunder a 2-1 victory over Port Huron before 3,837 people Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in International Hockey League action.

The win halted a 13-game losing streak to the IceHawks that dated back to last season. It also stopped a nine-game losing skid this year and gave the PrairieThunder its first overtime win on two occasions.

Bloomington raised its record to 23-15-1-3 for 50 points. League-leading Port Huron dipped to 31-17-4-1 (67 points).

Steve Rymsha put Port Huron on the scoreboard first with 12:37 remaining in the first period on a power play. Jamie Carroll and Jamie Lovell had assists.

The PrairieThunder tied the game on Jan Jas' goal with 53 seconds remaining after goaltender Jason Wolfe had been pulled from the net. Brett Holmberg and Booras had the assists.

Booras then scored his game-winning goal on a power play with the assists to Shaun Fisher and Henry Kuster.

Wolfe earned the victory by stopping 23 of 24 shots, while Ryan Moir took the loss after halting 37 of 39 shots. Bloomington was 1 for 6 on the power play, while Port Huron was 1 for 4.

The PrairieThunder returns to action Thursday with a 6 p.m. game at Flint before heading to Port Huron for games Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
