Power Lose Close Game to Windsor

(Windsor, ON - ) The Mississauga Power traveled to Windsor tonight to take on the Express in their last game of 2014. It was a close game throughout, but the Power were not able to overcome an early fourth quarter run by the Express, losing 82-78 for a fifth straight loss. Travis Releford led all players with 31 points and also added 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Jordan Weidner had his best game of the season, with 21 points, 6 rebounds and five three pointers.

The Power started off well, on a 7-3 run behind makes off of Travis Releford and Michael Allison. The Express would slowly battle back and take their first lead of the game 15-14 with a minute and half remaining in the quarter. The Express closed out the quarter on a 9-0 to take a 20-14 lead at the end of one.

The Power had a quick 14-4 surge to start the second quarter, taking a 28-24 lead. The rest of the quarter would swing back and forth as both teams exchanged the lead multiple times. The Power's first overall pick this season, Jordan Weidner, had the best quarter of his young career, converting on all four three point attempts for 12 points at halftime. Travis Releford led all scorers with 17 points as the Power took the 41-40 lead into the break.

At the start of the third, the two teams continued to exchange blows with neither holding a strong advantage. The Power finally managed to get some separation from the Express with help from Weidner and Releford baskets, taking a 61-55 lead. With just a minute left in the third, the Express would go on a 8-0 run, capitalizing on a few costly turnovers by the Power. The Express took a 63-61 lead heading into the final quarter.

The two teams also looked even in the fourth until the 8 minute mark, when Windsor would go on an 8-0 run to take a 74-66 lead. The Power would make one last come back effort but would not be able to battle back as the team fell 82-78.

The Power will be playing Brampton back to back to start the new year, as the team first travels to Brampton on January 3rd before returning home on January 6th.
