Power Escapes Harbour Station with Win

(Saint John, NB): The Mississauga Power escaped Harbour Station with a win over the Saint John Mill Rats, 98-95, as Chris Matthews three pointer rimmed out as time expired.

Matthews had hit a desperation three with 5 seconds left to cut the Power lead down to 2. Mark Gomilia was fouled to stop the clock but made only 1 out of 2 from the line, setting up a last opportunity by the Mill Rats.

Saint John shot poorly from the foul line, going 16-31 from the charity stripe.

The Mill Rats led early by the Power hung around throughout the first half. The Mill Rats led 51-48 at the half. The game saw 58 fouls called that interrupted the action often.

In the second half it was the Power who built an 8 point lead at 90-82 before Saint John rattled off 9 straight points to take a 1 point lead. The possession was costly as Will Blalock went down with an ankle injury and would not return.

The Mill Rats started strong today and led 27-19 after the first quarter. Moncton hung close to get within 53-48 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Mill Rats began clicking getting scoring from Tyrone Levett, Doug Herring, and Anthony Anderson. Anderson's behind the back pass for the two handed slam by Herring brought the home fans out their seats as Saint John built a 20-point lead. The Miracles did not fold as they rattled off a 20-6 run to close within 80-74 by the end of third.

The Mill Rats were able get 29 points on the board in the fourth two keep the Miracles at bay and wrap up their first home win of the season in three tries.

Tyrone Levett led the Mill Rats with 20 points, Doug Herring 16, Jermaine Blackburn 16, Anthony Anderson 15, and Chris Matthews 12.

Mississauga's record improves to 4-7 while Saint John drops to 6-4.

The Mill Rats next home game is Thursday December 5th against the Halifax Rainmen at 7PM at Harbour Station.
