Portland Lumberjax News Release

The Jax improved their record to 6-5 tonight with their win again San Jose 11-10. The Jax started slow in the first half only putting up four points before halftime, trailing the Stealth 7-4. However, the momentum shifted in the second with some brilliant saves by player of the game Matt King (27 saves for the game). Portland kept San Jose scoreless for fifteen minutes, until Stealth's Derek Malawsky put in a goal in the fourth quarter. The game was sealed when Ryan Powell scored the game winning goal with 1:33 minutes left to play, helping to put the Jax into second place (tied with Arizona).

"We played two different games tonight, "said GM/Head Coach Derek Keenan. "Matt King made some great saves, and the key to the second half was shutting San Jose down."

The first half started off with a 6-0 run by the Stealth, which included a hat-trick by Luke Wiles. San Jose's Jeff Zywicki put in one of his two goals for the night in the first quarter, and Cam Sedgwick, Gary Rosyski, and Jim Moss also scored. Portland did little to respond with Mike Hominuck scoring two of the Jax four goals in the first quarter, with points by Pete Morgan and Shawn Cable as well.

In the second half the Jax began to narrow the Stealth's lead to one going into the fourth quarter. Brodie Merrill scored two goals in the second and also had two assists and 23 loose balls for the night. Mike Hominuck completed the night with a hat-trick scoring his final goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Portland took over the lead with eight minutes left to play with a goal by Ryder Bateman. The Stealth kept it close with goals by Derek Malawsky and Jeff Zywicki scoring later in the fourth to tie up the game at 10-10. After a quick five goal offensive run in the first quarter goaltender Dallas Eliuk came out and Matt King kept the Stealth to only 5 goals for the remaining 51 minutes of play.
