Stealth Fall To Portland, 11-10

Portland - The San Jose Stealth (5-5) scored seven goals in the first quarter for the second consecutive week.

Unfortunately for the Stealth, they were unable to hold on to the lead against the Portland Lumberjax (6-5). After securing a 7-1 lead after the first quarter, they were outscored 10-3 the rest of the way.

San Jose struggled to find goals against Portland's goalie, Matt King who was in net after starter Dallas Eliuk was pulled in the first quarter after allowing five quick Stealth goals.

San Jose took control of the game in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead within the first ten minutes of the game. Mike Hominuck scored for Portland to cut the lead to 6-1. San Jose scored the final goal of the quarter with a minute remaining. Luke Wiles led San Jose scoring three goals in the quarter.

The second quarter Portland bounced back cutting the Stealth lead in half. Shawn Cable, Mike Hominuck, and Peter Morgan each scored goals for Portland as they outscored San Jose 3-0 in the quarter.

The third quarter saw more offensive struggles for the Stealth. The Lumberjax started off the scoring in the third quarter on a goal by Brodie Merrill. Ian Hawksbee scored just under two minutes later for San Jose to put the lead back to up to three. However San Jose would be shut down the rest of the quarter, while Portland would add two goals to cut the lead to just a goal entering the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was contested tightly as the game went back and forth. Portland started off the quarter by scoring three goals. Derek Malawsky and Jeff Zywicki bounced back scoring two goals for San Jose to tie the game up with just over five minutes remaining. Ryan Powell scored a short handed goal which proved to be the game winner with less then two minutes to go.

Luke Wiles (three goals and one assist) and Gary Rosyski (one goal and three assists) lead the way for the Stealth with four points each. Back-to-Back NLL Rookie of the Week Jeff Zywicki contributed two goals and one assist in the loss.

Brandon Miller was in net for the Stealth and recorded 37 saves.

RADAR BLIPS: With the loss, San Jose falls to one game out of first place...Portland won the earlier meeting between the two game in San Jose...Of Miller's three games this season two have been against the expansion Lumberjax...San Jose's next game will be on March 31 against the Buffalo Bandits at HP Pavilion. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
