
Powell, Martin, And Rotelli Will Represent Dragons In 2007 MLL All-Star Game

SAN FRANCISCO- Recognized for their outstanding play this season, Ryan Powell, Eric Martin, and Chris Rotelli have been selected for the 2007 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, which will take place July 8, 2007 at 12:30PM ET at Harvard University's Harvard Stadium. This year's game will also be broadcast live on ESPN2. The All-Stars were selected by the League's head coaches, general managers and players.
Ryan Powell will play in his fourth all-star game. Last Season, Powell participated in the game but was part of Team USA. For the first time in the MLL's seven-year history, the game will have the all stars from the Eastern Conference playing against the Western Conference all stars instead of using Team USA. Powell is currently the team leader in points with 8 goals, 1 2-pointer, and 8 assists. His other All-Star appearances on the MLL Team were in 2004 and 2002 with Rochester. Powell is the 2006 Warrior Offensive POY and Bud Light MVP (also the first to win both in the same season) and the 2001 MLL Most Valuable Player Award. His stats in all four all-star games include 3 goals and 5 assists.
Eric Martin will play in his first all-star game and will represent the Dragons defense. Martin is currently the team leader in ground balls with 20, third in the Western Conference, and 6th overall and was named MLL Defensive Player of the Week on June10, 2007. . Martin is currently third in points among MLL defenseman with four points on only 3 shots. He leads a defense that has allowed 62 goals which is the lowest in the western conference and 3td in the MLL, and also has only allowed 2 power play goals all year, which is the lowest in the league.
Chris Rotelli is no stranger to the MLL All-Star Game. Last year Rotelli was the only Dragon to play on the MLL side of the competition while facing Powell on Team USA. This is Rotelli's third All-Star nod at the midfield position as he has 9 points on the season on 5 goals and 7 ground balls. His first all-star appearance was representing Boston where he also won the MLL freestyle competition. In his two all-star game appearances, Rotelli has 5 goals and 6 ground balls.
The Denver Outlaws, who the Dragons face tomorrow June 23rd at home at 1pm, have a total of eight players in the All-Star game, which is the most of any MLL team. In addition to the game, the All-Star festivities will include the Bud Light MLL All-Star Skills Competition, which will take place at half-time.
