New Jersey Pride News Release
SAN FRANCISCO, C.A. - After surviving the frenetic final two minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime, the Pride lost the opening face off of extra time, and after a timeout, watched Ryan Powell hold the ball for 39 seconds before darting to the goal and scoring a goal in tight to send the Pride to its fourth defeat of the season, 16-15.
"It is tough to see if Powell was in the crease there,'' said Pride head coach Peter Jacobs. "This is a bitter pill to swallow.''
New Jersey held a two goal lead in the fourth quarter, but a two-point goal from Tom Zummo tied the game, and the teams traded goals the rest of the way to the final horn of regulation. In the final minute of regulation, the Pride fought off two man-down situations just to send the game to overtime.
"I liked the way we played in defensive sets at the end of the game on man down,'' Jacobs said. "We held them down in that situation well, but we also didn't take care of the ball and we couldn't counter with any kind of offense.''
The Pride fall to 3-4 on the season, while the Dragons improve to 4-2 and now hold the tiebreaker with the Pride in the wild card race.
Scott Urick led the way for the Pride with five goals, just one shy of his career high of six goals set back in August of 2004. Dan Chemotti and Adam Doneger also scored a pair of goals, and Jesse Hubbard added the 201st tally of his career, which was the final goal of the game for New Jersey.
The Pride fell behind 6-3 after a quarter when San Francisco scored the final three goals of the stanza. A Ryan Powell goal 1:28 into the second quarter gave San Fran a 7-3 lead, but the Pride stormed back with goals from Dan Chemotti, Walid Hajj, Scott Urick and a man-up goal from Adam Doneger to cut the lead to 8-7 at the half.
Urick had his fifth hat trick of the season by intermission.
The Pride took their first lead with 7:06 to go in the third quarter when Ben Grinnell fired a right handed shot to the back of the net. San Francisco came right back to tie the game at 10 moments later. With 4:30 to go the Pride took the lead again as Adam Doneger rang a behind-the-back shot off the crossbar, only to have Urick pick it up and score to go up 11-10. Again the Dragons came right back off the face-off and Steve Holmes hit on his second goal of the game to tie the contest.
The Pride came back though with quick goals from Liam Banks and Urick to take the lead into the fourth quarter at 13-12.
