FC Edmonton News Release

FC Edmonton (13W-8D-6L) looks to earn a spot in the North American Soccer League (NASL) postseason with three points at Clarke Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (9W-10D-8L) this Sunday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. MT.

A victory would guarantee the Eddies one of the final two spots still remaining for The Championship, the NASL's four-team postseason tournament. Only one spot would remain available if the Eddies were able to pick up a win this weekend. The Indy Eleven secured the first spot by winning the Spring Season while the New York Cosmos currently sit atop the Fall Season standings with the Eddies on their heels who sit seven points back with a match in hand.

The Eddies were able to steal a win late in their previous match against Indy by scoring two goals in the final 14 minutes, including a Ben Fisk 94th minute-winner, for a come-from-behind 2-1 victory. The win pushed the Eddies into second place in the Fall Season standings with five matches remaining.

The Rowdies approach Sunday's match with similar postseason ambitions. Three points against the Eddies would keep the Rowdies firmly in the conversation for a postseason berth. The Florida side currently sits level with Minnesota United FC for fourth in the Combined Standings with a game in hand.

The Eddies and Rowdies have met twice already this year, but Sunday's match will be the first on Edmonton soil with the previous two taking place in Florida at Al Lang Stadium. The last meeting was decided from the spot by Eddies' striker Daryl Fordyce, who buried a 74th minute penalty past Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens for the game winner.

Sunday's match comes at a pivotal time for both clubs, who are looking to take a massive step towards November's postseason.

"Tampa Bay are a very well-organized club with a great quality about them who, like ourselves, are fighting for their playoff lives," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "If our attitude is right, we stand a very good chance of taking three points and securing our postseason spot. This is a very talented Rowdies side and we have to give them the outmost respect for their talent and current position. There's all to play for on both sides this weekend."

Take in the sights and sounds of this weekend's match against the Rowdies at Clarke Stadium when the Eddies celebrate Oktoberfest! The celebration runs from 1-4 p.m. and embraces all things German culture, including music, food, dancing, face painting and more!
