Portland Trail Blazers sign former ABA coach
October 7, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Ricardo Richardson, ABA Executive Vice President, today announced that Pat Zipfel, former coach of the ABA New Jersey Squires, has been named to the NBA Portland Trail Blazers scouting staff for the 2004-2005 season. Zipfel was formerly Head Coach and Athletic Director of Centenary College in NJ and held coaching positions at Bucks County Community College and The Citadel as well as advance scout for the LA Clippers. Richardson stated, "Many ABA players move on to the NBA; we often forget that the league is a great training ground for our coaches; Kevin Pritchard, former Kansas City Coach, is another who went to the NBA. And we know that others are being closely watched."
