Portland Timbers Forward Ryan Johnson Voted MLS Player of the Week
April 8, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Monday, April 8, 2013) - Portland Timbers forward Ryan Johnson was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week six of the 2013 MLS season.
Ryan Johnson led the Portland Timbers to their first win of the 2013 season by scoring both goals in the 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo at JELD-WEN field.
After a scoreless first half and with two starters out due to injuries, Portland's offense came to life when Ryan Johnson left-footed Diego Chara's cross mid-air into the back of the net in the 55th minute. Johnson struck again in the 72nd minute, when he took off down the left flank and placed a left-footed shot inside the far post.
Next up, the Portland Timbers host the San Jose Earthquakes in a nationally televised match on NBC Sports Network this Sunday, April 14 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
