Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Florida Panthers, today unveiled new uniforms to be worn during the 2015-16 season. The team unveiled a new design for its home and away sweaters, as well as an alternate throwback sweater that replicates the team's original black road sweater.
"The uniforms unveiled today represent an opportunity for us to a create fresh, clean look as we begin our new affiliation with the Florida Panthers, while also paying tribute to our roots as an organization," said Portland Pirates COO Brad Church. "We feel the new game uniforms bring us a more traditional look that our players and fans will be proud of. We're also excited bring back our original "Swash" logo and our original uniform design in our alternate jerseys. This is a design that our fans have been asking for, and we are very happy to make this design a reality."
Three of the design elements of the new uniform make their first appearance on a main Portland Pirates game sweater: a tie string collar, black shoulder piping, and a horizontal belt stripe with smaller border stripes on both the waist and elbows.
The new home uniform has a white base with the team's main Salty Pete logo on the front. The design features a horizontal black belt stripe around both the waist and elbows, with smaller red stripes outlining it. The sweater also has a thin, black piping around the shoulders. It also features tie strings on the collar. The numbering and lettering will feature a black base with white and red trim.
The uniform also features socks with a black base up to the knee, then a white base from the knee up, with a horizontal red stripe across the knee. The uniform features a while helmet.
The new road uniform has a red base with the team's main Salty Pete logo on the front. This design features the same horizontal black belt stripe features around both the waist and elbows as the home jerseys, but it is bordered by smaller white stripes. This sweater also features thin, black piping around the shoulders and a tie string collar, like the home sweater. The numbering and lettering on the road sweater will be a white base with black trim.
The away socks have a black base below the knee and a red base from the knee up, with a horizontal white stripe across the knee. This uniform features a black helmet.
The Pirates' throwback alternate sweater uses a black base with the original Pirates' "Swash" logo on the front. The design features a horizontal red belt stripe around the waist and elbows with two thinner white stripes bordering it. This design is similar to the Pirates' original road sweater, which team wore from 1993-1999. The numbering on this sweater, which uses the same number style as the Pirates' original uniforms, feature a red base, with black and white trim. The lettering on this jersey will be white.
The alternate socks will feature a black base, with the same red and white striping design on the knees as the jersey uses on the elbows and waist. The throwback uniform will use a black helmet.
The Pirates will wear their alternate jerseys for all five Sunday home games at Cross Insurance Arena during the 2015-16 season, plus other select home dates throughout the season.
All three of the Pirates' new uniforms include a shoulder patch with the primary logo of the Pirates' NHL Affiliate, the Florida Panthers.
Fans will be able to purchase replicas of the jerseys released today. Details about the sale of replica jerseys will be announced in the coming days.
