April 5, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks took home all three IHL weekly awards for the second time this season when the league announced that Mike Kinnie was named Player of the Week, Larry Sterling was named Goaltender of the Week and Mickael Bedard was named Rookie of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 4, 2010.

Kinnie finished week 25 with five points on three goals and two assists and a plus-two rating in three games. In just his third week since returning from injury, Kinnie is currently on a five-game point streak, with five goals and an assist during the streak. The 28-year-old Shelby Township, MI native has been held scoreless just once since March 19. Before his injury, Kinnie was among the top scorers in the IHL, winning Player of the Week honors in the season's first week as well as Player of the Month for October.

Sterling earned his first official shutout of the season in Friday's 6-0 victory over the Quad City Mallards. The win gives Sterling three consecutive seasons of at least 20 victories with the Icehawks. Though he started just one game last week, Sterling also saw action Saturday night in relief of teammate Adam Russo. In just under 80 minutes last week, Sterling stopped all 35 shots he faced and has not allowed a goal in over 100 minutes of action. The 27-year-old native of Lake Orion, MI is no stranger to IHL awards, having previously been named Goaltender of the Week in weeks nine and 15, as well as Goaltender of the Month in October and December.

Mickael Bedard takes home his eighth IHL award of the season after finishing the week with two goals, an assist and a plus-four rating. The rookie left winger continues to lead IHL rookies in goals (34), assists (35), points (69), +/- (+29) and shooting percentage (0.179). Friday night against Quad City, Bedard tallied his 19th multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist. No other IHL rookie has more than 14 games of at least two points. The 22-year-old Montreal native was named Rookie of the Week in weeks five and 21, Player of the week in weeks 10, 11 and 16 and Rookie of the Month in December and January.

This marks the second time this season that the Icehawks have swept the IHL weekly awards. In week nine, Nick Lindberg took home Player of the Week honors while Larry Sterling was named Goaltender of the Week and Brandon Naurato won his first Rookie of the Week award. In the 2009-10 season, the Icehawks have won a total of 24 weekly and monthly awards.
