
IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Five

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron forward Mike Kinnie has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 4th, 2010.
Kinnie finished the week scoring three goals and dishing out two assists for five points in three games played. In Tuesday's 4-3 win over Bloomington, he had his fifth game this season with at least two goals. After scoring the eventual game-winning goal and an assist Friday in Port Huron's 6-0 win over Quad City, Kinnie recorded his tenth multi-point game of the year. With the five points he earned this week, Kinnie extended his point streak five games, notching in five goals and one assist during the streak. The 28-year-old Shelby Township, Michigan native has averaged over a point a game, scoring 33 points in 30 games played so far this season.
Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward John Snowden, Dayton AJ MacLean, Flint forward Jamie Schaafsma, Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin, Muskegon center Brian Bicek and Quad City right wing Chris Lipsett.
After being held scoreless in his last five games, Bedard wrapped up Week 25 of his rookie campaign scoring two goals and having one assist for three points, registering a plus-four rating in three games played. He scored Port Huron's second goal and assisted on the sixth goal in the 6-0 win over the Mallards Friday, recording his 19th multi-point game of the season. Bedard also notched in the third goal in the Icehawks 4-3 loss in Fort Wayne Saturday. The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native is currently dominating all IHL rookies, leading in points (69), goals (34), assists (35), power play goals (11), shooting percentage (.179) and plus/minus (plus-29).
Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Matt Woodard, Dayton forward Corey Couturier, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Muskegon left wing Matt Robertson and Quad City right wing Brandon Marino.
Sterling completed the week with just one win, earning his 20th win for the third consecutive season.
He stopped all 26 shots he faced Friday in Port Huron's 6-0 win to earn his first official shutout of the season. Sterling has recorded one shutout in the last three years in the IHL. He made nine saves in the third period relief appearance Saturday in the Icehawks 4-3 loss in Fort Wayne. The 27-year-old Lake Orion, Michigan native is currently fourth among IHL goaltenders in wins and is fifth in goals against average with a 2.76.
Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Matt Lundin and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
