Port Huron Flags News Release
Port Huron, MI- The Port Huron Flags and Head Coach Paul Willett announce the addition of former IHL rookie of the year, Brian Felsner to their inaugural season roster.
The Port Huron Flags, the community owned, nonprofit member club of The United Hockey League believe the signing of Felsner exemplifies the caliber and program the expansion team is looking to build.
At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Felsner brings to the squad ten years of professional hockey experience highlighted by twelve games in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1997. The former IHL rookie of the year also played in the AHL and Europe and is expected to make a big impact on the team in not only points, but in the leadership department as well.
"He does everything well," said Willett. "He's a proven goal scorer, he's good at setting up other players, he can kill penalties and he's a guy that will stand up for his teammates. He's an all around good hockey player and that's what we're looking for here in Port Huron."
Willett also feels the addition exemplifies the commitment of the organization to building a competitive team. "Signing Brian let's people know we're serious about bringing in quality players" said Willett. "I'm sure it will make our recruiting job a little easier too."
Flags President Dan Isenberg believes the signing could not have come at a better time. "We were closing in on 950 season tickets, with a lot of fans still waiting to see how our team was coming along. Now after signing Felsner, I expect we will surpass 1,100 season tickets soon."
Although the team recently lost forward Joe Cardarelli, who left The United Hockey League to play in Europe earlier this week, the organization has much to be excited about, particularly season ticket sales that are quickly approaching the 1,000 mark. The all time record for a Port Huron member club is 1,100.
"By signing Brian Felsner, we not only obtain a player that can help put us into the UHL Playoffs, but also give our fans an exciting player that will be fun to watch."
Fans will have their first opportunity to meet and welcome Felsner and The Flags' to Port Huron at The Flags' Open House, Thursday September 15th at 6:00p, McMorran Arena. The event is free and open to the public and will feature player autograph sessions, meet and greets with Slapshot and The Flags, locker room tours and a jersey auction. For more information contact The Flags' Front Office at (810) 982-FLAG (3524).
Tickets for the preseason opener against Flint on October 14th are not available yet, but will be free for season ticket holders. General admission tickets will be $5 and available in October.
