Hogs to help raise money for hurricane victims

Rockford, Ill.- In an effort to help aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, Rockford IceHogs General Manager Ryan Washatka and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson will help answer phones at the American Red Cross in Rockford during the 5:00 p.m. newscast and Telethon on WTVO-17 (ABC).

WTVO will broadcast the Telethon live during their 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscast on Wednesday. The station began the Telethon on Tuesday and phone lines are open 10:35 p.m. Washatka and Martinson will be on hand for Wednesday's first Telethon segment on WTVO, as the American Red Cross continues to collect cash donations for the relief efforts in the Gulf Coast Region.

Also, IceHogs owners Dr. Kris Tumilowicz and Craig Drecktrah, have announced that they will match all donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,000, made during the 5:00 p.m. newscast in which Washatka and Martinson are participating.

To donate, contact the American Red Cross at (815) 316-2805. Your donation will help victims left homeless by Katrina with food, shelter, counseling and other needs for those trying to get back on their feet. Checks and all major credit cards will be accepted.
