
Poppy's Back To Storm

The 2005 National Champions of United Indoor Football (UIF), Sioux Falls Storm, is pleased to announce the re-signing of free-safety and Augustana College alum, Shannon Poppinga. Poppinga, 6'0, 185lbs. returns to the Storm for his 7th season of indoor football (2006 will be his 6th year with the Storm and he played one year with the Sioux Falls Cobras). Shannon is coming off arguably his best season as a professional where he led the UIF in interceptions with 10, including 3 that were returned for a touchdown. In addition to his 10 interceptions in 2005, "Poppy" collected 53.5 tackles, forced 2 fumbles and recovered one fumble.
Poppinga is also amongst the elite in the Storm record book. Currently, he is second all-time in career interceptions for the Storm with 25, needing only 5 to tie the Storm's current career leader, Bobby Perkins (30). Poppinga is also 4th all-time in career tackles with 296
"Poppy is a true play-maker and we feel fortunate to have him back for another Championship run. He stays in tremendous shape and as he continues his professional career he seems to only get better," says head coach, Kurtiss Riggs.
The 2006 season kicks off for the Storm on Friday, March 24 when the Storm travels to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Omaha Beef. The home opener for the Storm will be Saturday, April 8 with a "Championship Re-Match" as the Sioux City Bandits enter the Sioux Falls Arena.
