Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
Chattanooga, TN - The 2020 regular season has come to a close with the Chattanooga Red Wolves, but they went out on a high note raising $2,820 dollars for the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center. Details about the fundraising initiatives that were in place.
"We thought [the event] went very well and was one of the best events that we have ever been a part of. We were happy to have a great turn out. It was such a fun game to watch," says Jennifer Nicely. CHI Memorial Foundation President Jennifer Nicely. "Hopefully next year we will see some more normalcy when it comes to crowd size and we anticipate this becoming a very fun event for all of those who attend."
"One of the longstanding goals we have with CHI Memorial Hospital is the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Having an annual P!NK Out game where we can enjoy an incredible event while battling this disease is a priority for the Red Wolves and CHI Memorial Stadium for years to come" says Chattanooga Red Wolves President Sean McDaniel.
During COVID-19, cancer screenings like mammograms have been down as much as 90%, and are still down significantly when compared to weekly averages from the previous three years. While people may be hesitant to go in for a mammogram in the COVID-19 era, Brittany Hennessy of the MaryEllen Locher Center has emphasized the importance of continuing these routine checkups and the safety of doing so. "Early detection could be the difference between a simple surgery to chemo-radiation so early detection is key and that is something our surgeon, radiologist and we stand behind. It can save lives and will save lives," says Hennessy. "Keeping both the staff and the patients safe is such a high priority for us at the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center. We have several additional measures to ensure the safety of our patients and that includes anything from cleaning between patients to limiting the number of people inside the center at one time"
The P!NK Out match was a success for both the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center and the Chattanooga Red Wolves. It was the club's 6th and final sold out match of the season, and all fans in attendance were able to increase their knowledge about breast cancer while watching their team battle for a victory. Gaining awareness, providing a safe environment for screenings, and raising funds were the primary goals for the P!NK Out match and upon the final whistle, just that was accomplished.
