Richmond Raiders News Release
RICHMOND, VA (June 17, 2015) - The Richmond Raiders (7-4) return to action at the Richmond Coliseum this Saturday as they take on the Erie Explosion (2-8) at 7:00 p.m. Back on May 10 when the two teams last met, the Raiders defeated Erie 70-46 in Erie. In that game, the Raiders were able to capitalize on several Explosion miscues to propel themselves to a win.
Richmond comes into this week having had a week of rest during last week's bye week. Prior to that, they defeated the Nashville Venom 53-30 in Richmond. That victory extended the team's win streak to five and vaulted them into second place in PIFL standings. A big second half which saw the Raiders hold Nashville scoreless until late in the fourth quarter propelled the team to victory. Raiders KR Daron Clark recorded a 53-yard kickoff return, earning him Week 12 Player of the Week honors for his performance. DL Blade Shoop also earned Player of the Week honors for his role in helping the defense record an impressive six sacks for a loss of 28 yards.
Erie travels to Richmond after falling to Nashville last week 61-38. This season, Erie has two wins to their record, one of them coming against the Alabama Hammers of the PIFL. However, a strong defense makes them a team that cannot be overlooked.
This week's game determines when the Raiders will play their first-round playoff game. If they win, they will host the first game on June 29 at the Richmond Coliseum. If they should lose, other factors will come into play in determining where their first playoff game is held. Either way, they have secured themselves a place in postseason play.
In line with Father's Day, the theme for this week's game is "Three Cheers for Dad's Day", with activities celebrating fathers planned. Ticket prices for the playoff games will be announced following Saturday's game. Follow along live by watching the Raiders' UStream account or by connecting with them on social media at @RICRaiders.
