Playoffs in Sight for Wild

June 25, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Wichita Wild News Release

With only two games remaining on the Indoor Football League?s (IFL) regular season schedule, the Wichita Wild (6-6) will continue their quest for the team?s first-ever playoff berth as they take on the RiverCity Rage (8-5) on Saturday at Hartman Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 pm and doors will open at 6:00.

This will be the final game in a three game series during the regular season with the Rage and Wild. The series is tied 1-1 with each team winning on their home field. With a victory Saturday, the Wild will clinch the third playoff seed in the Central Division.

Newly acquired quarterback Dixie Wooten will make his debut for Wichita after throwing for 41 touchdowns and 1,819 yards over the first 10 games of the season with RiverCity. Wooten also ranks fourth among IFL quarterbacks with a passer rating of 107.4 this season. Wooten and the Wild will face a Rage defense that has only allowed 34.6 points per game this season, which ranks 6th in the IFL.

As Wooten gets acquainted with his new teammates, look for MVP candidate Darius Fudge to shoulder much of the load for the offense of the Wild. Fudge is approaching a milestone of 900 rushing yards and 30 rushing touchdowns. Fudge will look to take advantage of a defense he rushed for over 100 yards against on April 11 at Hartman Arena.

The Rage enter this week?s matchup having lost four out of their last five games and questions surrounding the quarterback position after Maurice Avery, a wide receiver at the University of Memphis, took over the role of signal caller in last week?s 70-56 loss to the El Paso Generals. However, Avery?s performance at quarterback proved effective as he passed for five touchdowns and added another two rushing touchdowns in the loss.

Come see the Wild clinch the playoff berth at Hartman Arena on June 27 vs. the RiverCity Rage! Tickets start as low as $10. Tickets for all home games are available at the Hartman Arena Box Office, by phone at 316-927-3999, stage1tickets.com and all Stage 1 Ticket Outlets.
