Rochester Brigade News Release

(Rochester, NY)-When the Rochester Brigade faces the Mohegan Wolves on Friday, July 19, it will be more than just a game...it will be for a spot in the 2002 playoffs.

All it will take is a win for the Brigade to be locked in to the 2002 Arena Cup Playoffs; however, there are other scenarios that can play out this weekend for the Brigade to reach playoffs. Alternative routes to the Brigade making the playoffs include the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers losing to the Albany Conquest or the New Haven Ninjas losing to the Norfolk Nighthawks.

"This is an important game for us," stated Saunders. "This game could give us a chance to clinch a playoff spot, and we can get it done ourselves instead of waiting and watching what other teams do."

All in all, if the Brigade wins one of their last two remaining games of the regular season they will make their first post-season appearance in franchise history in just the second season of existence. Provided the Brigade makes the playoffs, they will travel a short distance down the NYS I-90 thruway to face their bitter rivals, the Albany Conquest, on Saturday, August 4, for a 7:30 kickoff.

Currently the Brigade is coming off of a bye week, the only one of the season and first in franchise history. The week off was well needed to allow many of the players to recover from a wide range of injuries they had acquired over the past couple of weeks.

"We're healed up...the bye week it gave us an opportunity to rejuvenate ourselves," commented Saunders. "The guys are prepared and ready go."

This week the Brigade will see the return of OL/DL Mike Stachewicz, who is the team's starting center and is a vital part of the offense.

Rochester and Mohegan are currently tied at one game apiece, with the Brigade winning the last meeting 53-50 in Mohegan back on May 17, after the Wolves took the first meeting in Rochester back on April 19, 54-45. If the series plays out the way it has to date, the road team will be victorious which favors the Brigade.

With a victory this weekend, the Brigade will snap a four game road-losing streak and win the season series between these two clubs. If the Wolves come away with the victory, they will end a six game losing streak the longest in their brief history; nonetheless, they will have to do it without the arm of QB Cable Davis, who has recently signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

Don't miss this game! Catch all of the action on WYSL 1040 AM with the voice of the Brigade JC DeLass. For information on the Brigade, check out the team's website at www.rochesterbrigade.com or call 585-292-1530.
