Bakersfield Blitz News Release

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 18, 2002) - The Bakersfield Blitz of arenafootball2 announced today that the team will be holding its 'Kids Football Fest' on Saturday afternoon, July 27 from 3 - 5 pm, prior to the game against the Tulsa Talons.

"It's a great chance for kids to come down, learn some football and get to play on the same field the Blitz plays on," said General Manager Brad Hoffman. "It will be a fun afternoon for the kids, and then a great night of football when we play the Tulsa Talons."

Kids, age 14 and under, will learn the basic concepts of football while taking part in skill tests. The tests range from throwing, catching and agilities, to a timed 40-yard dash. The event will take place on the Blitz' home turf in the Centennial Garden. Registration begins at 3 pm and the price of admission is just a ticket to that night's game, which is only five dollars for kids with a paid adult ticket.

The Blitz returns to action this Saturday in the third game of the "Battle of Highway 99" when they travel to play the Fresno Frenzy. A win would clinch the Division championship for Bakersfield and assure a first-round home game in the 2002 ArenaCup playoffs. The following week, the Tulsa Talons come to town in a rematch of week five, when the Talons handed the Blitz a 48-27 loss in Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 7 pm with the pre-game tailgate party, in front of the Centennial Garden, beginning at 5 pm.

More than two million fans have attended arenafootball2 games in the league's two-year history. In 2000, af2 began its inaugural season with 15 teams. The league expanded to 28 teams in 2001, making it the fastest single-league expansion in the history of sports.
