Kansas City Comets News Release

(Independence, MO) We are over halfway through the season and things are heating up in the MISL's Central Division. Every team is in playoff contention as we enter the final stretch and it is unclear who will be claiming the division's two playoff spots. The Comets hope to add some clarity to the picture this weekend as they prepare to battle the division leading Milwaukee Wave and closest rival, the Wichita Wings.

The weekend opens up for the Comets on Friday night against the Milwaukee Wave. The Wave have been the powerhouse of the league so far, but they came back to reality last week losing to the Baltimore Blast on New Year's Eve. Sitting at 8-1, they are leading the Central Division and the league. Their balanced attack has nine players with double-digit points and they are averaging over 15 points per game. Add to that, the fact last year's team leader Marco Terminesi has returned from an injury that sidelined him for most of the season. The Comets aren't intimidated though. Last year they were 1-2 vs the Wave in the regular season, with their only win on New Year's Eve in Milwaukee. That win, though, gave them the confidence needed to defeat the Wave handily in Game 1 of the MISL Semi-Finals and to come within 3 minutes of beating them in Game 2 of that series.

Saturday the Comets head down to Wichita for Game 5 of the I-35 Series. This series has produced some of the most exciting games fans have seen. The MISL season kicked off in Wichita with an exciting 16-14 overtime victory. Then, last weekend saw the two teams split a pair of nail-biters, both decided in the final minutes of action. The Comets will be seeking revenge after losing to the Wings for the first time last Saturday. The Wings' Edvin Worley was able to get free for the game winning goal with only minutes left. Defenders Ryan Junge and Brian Harris will be working hard to make sure he doesn't get that look again.

The Comets are currently 2.5 games back of the Milwaukee Wave and 2.5 games up on the Wichita Wings. A pair of wins would close the gap with the Wave and further solidify their playoff prospects as we head through the second half of the season. Fans are encouraged to watch both games this weekend from the home of the Official Watch Party of the Comets, the BrewTop Pub & Patio in Lee's Summit. Friday night's game starts at 7:00pm and Saturday night's at 7:35pm.
