Green Bay Blizzard News Release

A second consecutive division title and a third consecutive trip to the playoffs are on the line this week when the Green Bay Blizzard (8-6 overall) take on the Louisville Fire (8-6 overall) on Friday, July 20th at U.S. Cellular Field inside the Resch Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST. Green Bay is currently in a three way tie with the Louisville Fire and the Quad City Steamwheelers (8-6 overall) for the top spot in the Midwest Division. If the Blizzard extinguish the Fire on Friday the Blizzard will be at best alone atop the division. At worst, the Blizzard will still be tied with the Steamwheelers for first place. In the event of a 10-6 tie between Green Bay and Quad Cities at the end of the season, Green Bay would win the tie break. The first tie break between Green Bay and Quad Cities would be head to head. Since Green Bay and Quad Cities each defeated the other at home, the next tie break is the point differential in those two games. Green Bay defeated Quad City by 30 points while they only lost to them by 28. With the tie breaks in hand two more wins would give the Blizzard the Midwest Division Title and a home playoff game in the first round on August 3rd.

This showdown with Louisville on Friday the 20th marks the second season in a row that the Blizzard have faced Louisville with the division title on the line. On July 28, 2007 the Blizzard trailed the Fire 32-10 at halftime. The Blizzard rallied however, scoring three consecutive touchdowns and converting on all three two-point conversions to go ahead by one with 34 seconds remaining. Louisville then missed a field goal with no time remaining on the clock. The comeback win over the Fire was the key game in Green Bay's first division title run; the win and subsequent title also gave the Blizzard a first round home playoff game in which they defeated the Memphis Explorers 67-50. Both the division title and a home playoff game are once again on the line this Friday when the Blizzard take on the Fire. Green Bay remains undefeated at home in 2007; the end of the season win over Louisville last year also began a home winning streak that has yet to be broken and currently stands at nine games.

Friday's game is also "Fan Appreciation Night," which means the Blizzard are going above and beyond their normal game day excitement to ensure that their fans get all that they deserve. On Friday night the first 1,000 fans through the Resch Center doors will be receiving a free Blizzard T-shirt, compliments of Menominee Casino. Friday, July 20th is also a Miller Lite Buck Night which means that fans can enjoy $1.00 beers, sodas, and hotdogs all night long. Fans in attendance will also have a chance to win two plasma screen TVs, a gas powered scooter, and two Lazy Boy reclining chairs. The fun does not stop there, however. The game will also feature some of the city's bravest as the Green Bay Fire Department takes on the Green Bay Police Department in a flag football game at halftime. Tickets are still available so come catch playoff fever on "Fan Appreciation Night" with the Blizzard.
