Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats wrapped up their regular season home slate last Saturday night with a 48-25 victory over the Tupelo FireAnts on "Fan Appreciation Night." The win secures the BlueCats a spot in the United Indoor Football League playoffs. It is the first playoff appearance in team history.

Currently the BlueCats (7-6) sit in second place in the UIF South Division. Overall, if the playoffs started today, Evansville would be the #5 seed in the 8 team playoff format. Evansville has two games remaining this season against Lexington and Peoria, both on the road. The BlueCats still have a chance at a seed as high as #3 and a home playoff game.

The BlueCats were in control Saturday night against the FireAnts for the entire game. Evansville controlled the game with running backs Dale Jennings and Otis Shannon. Jennings rushed for 54 yards on 15 carries and 3 touchdowns, while Shannon added 42 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Shannon also scored on a two-point conversion following one of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Ramon Robinson was 10 for 17 for 86 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Robinson was also involved on two separate two point conversions. In the first quarter he connected with wide receiver Byron Curtis for two points following the games first touchdown, a 22 yard pass from Robinson to Curtis. Robinson also rushed for a two point conversion in the second quarter.

Wide Receiver Byron Curtis had 3 catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. Gerald Clark had two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown. Wide Receiver Matt Kent has 4 receptions for 29 yards.

For the first time in team history, the Evansville BlueCats did not attempt a field goal or extra point kick during the game.

The BlueCats defense had an outstanding performance. The defense intercepted four passes and forced two fumbles. They only allowed 20 yards rushing on 16 carries. Tupelo's longest run of the game was for a mere 6 yards on a play near the end of the first quarter.

The UIF's leading tackler Connie Brown recorded 8 tackles for the BlueCats, Darrell Jack had 5.5, and Scotty Stewart had 4 tackles.

Defensive back Jerry McCloud had 2 of the teams 4 interceptions, including an interception on the very first play of the game to set up a BlueCats touchdown drive. Tywaiin Dismuke and Taron Acuff had the other 2 picks.

Coming up next for the Evansville BlueCats is the Lexington Horsemen. The BlueCats will travel to Lexington and take on the Horsemen at Rupp Arena this Saturday night at 6:30pm Evansville time. Either Lexington or Evansville has been in the top spot in the UIF South Division all season. The BlueCats still have a shot at claiming a share of the UIF South Division title. With a victory this Saturday, the BlueCats could be the intra-division game champs.

Evansville defeated Lexington 57-52 back on April 30th at Roberts Stadium.
