Indianapolis Ice News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice opens its 2003 training camp on Wednesday afternoon as the team will take the ice at 1:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum.

The second year of "Camp McRae" gets underway with 22 players on the initial roster, including six players from last year's squad. All-star defenseman Bernie John is back for his fifth year on the blue line, while forwards Jason Baird, Jared Dumba and Ryan Carter and defensemen Ryan Aikia and Nate Elliott also return.

Prominent newcomers include defenseman Mario Doyon, forward Joe Guenther and goaltender Jeff Sanger. Doyon is a veteran of 871 professional games which includes a 28-game stint in the NHL with Chicago and Quebec and has amassed 563 points (177G, 386A) in 871 pro games. Guenther was an East Coast Hockey League All-Star last year and Sanger is an up-and-coming netminder who arrives from Norfolk Admirals (AHL) training camp as part of the affiliation agreement with the Chicago Blackhawks. The 24-year old goaltender is coming off a solid pro debut in Reading (ECHL) and Manchester (AHL) after four standout years at Colorado College (WCHA-NCAA-I).

"I am really looking forward to getting guys back on the ice and working with our returning core and our new recruits," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "Over the next 7-10 days, there could be a lot of player movement as I am continually looking to find the right chemistry for our team as we prepare for opening night on the 18th."
