Player Date Auction, Fan Appreciation, Win a Scoote

July 31, 2008 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Chicago Machine News Release

On Thursday, July 31, 2008, the Chicago Machine will be auctioning off a few of their most prized players for a good cause at the grand opening party for Akira Chicago Women's clothing store, located at 643 W. Diversey in Lincoln Park. The bidding war will take place from 5-10pm.

This will be the sixth official Akira store opening in Chicago since its debut in early 2005. Akira's rapid success as one of Chicago's most exclusive boutiques is primarily due to knowing how to appeal to their shoppers, especially the ladies. "Women like shopping, chocolate, vodka and men, so what better way to have a grand opening?" said Akira Chicago Clothing co-founder Jon Cotay. The celebration will consist of complimentary manicures, make-up consultations, massages, eyebrow threading, a chocolate fountain and summer cocktails.

Lacrosse is the nation's fastest growing sport, and more and more schools throughout the Chicago area have launched lacrosse programs. However, adding a new sport can be cost prohibitive and often only schools in affluent communities have competitive lacrosse teams. The Chicago Machine has worked with the Chicago Academy High School (CAHS) for the past year on developing a lacrosse program. The Machine has hosted a lacrosse clinic and lacrosse camp for students at CAHS. An inner city school devoted to providing a supportive, reflective environment for students committed to attending college, the CAHS will begin competitive lacrosse play at the development level in the spring of 2009.
