Edmonton Chill News Release
The Chill returned to the scene of the slaughter from last Saturday with visions of a win in their minds. The team at one point built a seven point lead, but still shorthanded with four members of the regular rotation back home in Edmonton, could not stand up to the 16 member Elkhart Express roster as they absorbed a 138-114 loss. Edmonton's record on the road trip now stands at 1-4.
Things started well enough for the visitors as they quickly erased a 6-0 deficit and before long led the defending champs something they failed to do at any point last Saturday. With the offense clicking and their defense fighting through the solid screening of the Express, the Chill were able to play the first twelve minutes and reach the first break with a 26-23 lead. The Express though, would not be denied as they continued to go to their bench to find the right combination of guys from among their three teams worth of players, and grab back the lead as the half was closing. Then with just about 90 seconds remaining the Express' Cedric Moodie, the team's leading scorer, managed to make himself invisible and get eight quick points to stake the home side to a 62-52 lead.
The third quarter would prove to be the clincher for the Express as they were able to build on their 10 point bulge netting an obscene 48 points in the frame building a lead into the twenties from which the Chill never recovered. Moodie was again the catalyst for Elkhart leading his team with 22 through 36 minutes along with 14 for Lincoln Glass. On the bright side, the Chill was able to win the fourth quarter by a 33-28 count, trimming a lead as high as 33 down to 24.
Leading the way for Edmonton was JR Patrick with a game high 26 to go with 8 boards and four assists. Broadus chipped in 19 while Lee Scruggs added 17 and a team high 9 rebounds. Tomorrow the IBL will hold their All-Star game in Gary, IN and the Chill's next contest will be Friday night at Grand Rapids. Check the team website, www.edmontonchill.com, for start times.
