Pittsburgh Pirates Winter Caravan is Coming to State College

On Monday, January 19, fans will have the opportunity to meet players Nate McLouth, Paul Maholm and Ross Ohlendorf along with third base coach Tony Beasley and broadcasters Greg Brown and John Wehner. The Caravan is a traveling "Hot Stove League" that will visit 30 communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland from January 18-22 and January 26-29 to meet with fans and build enthusiasm for the 2009 baseball season.

The Pirates Caravan stop to State College begins with a media session at Dick's Sporting Goods from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Caravan's stop in State College will conclude with a free autograph session open to the public at Dick's Sporting Goods from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

"We look forward to visiting fans throughout the region and thanking them for their continued support of Pirates baseball," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly. "This year's Caravan will be an ambitious effort to reach as many fans as possible throughout the region. Our 30 visits to communities in our region will be the most ever."

The Caravan will be take place this year in the week of January 18-22 leading up to PirateFest and the following week from January 26-29. Now in its 19th year, PirateFest will once again take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center from January 23-25. The interactive three-day baseball carnival features free autograph sessions, youth baseball clinics, prizes, games and question and answer sessions with Pirates management and players and much more.

Players Nate McLouth, Freddy Sanchez, Sean Burnett, Paul Maholm, Matt Capps, Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens, Andy LaRoche, Ryan Doumit, John Grabow, Zach Duke, Nyjer Morgan and Tom Gorzelanny along with manager John Russell, pitching coach Joe Kerrigan, hitting coach Don Long and third base coach Tony Beasley are all scheduled to participate in this year's PirateFest. In addition, Pirates prospects Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker will also be in attendance at this year's PirateFest.

Tickets for PirateFest are $10.00 for adults and free for kids 14 and younger (up to four free kids tickets with the purchase of one adult ticket). Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.pirates.com by calling 1-800-BUY-BUCS. PirateFest player appearances and autograph schedules will be announced at a later date on the team's official website at www.pirates.com.
