Pirates Training Camp Opens Monday

PORTLAND, ME – The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League will open their 2004 training camp on Monday, Sept. 27 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, ME. This training camp is the largest in the Pirates' history. A total of 37 players are set to hit the ice as the Pirates prepare for their 2004-05 season opener on Saturday, Oct. 16 vs. the St. John's Maple Leafs.

Twenty players from last year's squad are included in the 2004 training camp roster, including goaltender Maxime Ouellet, defensemen Shaone Morrisonn, Chris Hajt, Dwayne Zinger, Steve Eminger, Louis Robitaille, Nolan Yonkman, Jakub Cutta and forwards, Darcy Verot, Jared Aulin, Alex Semin, Owen Fussey, Mike Vigilante, Brad Parsons, Boyd Gordon, Garrett Stoshein, Graham Mink, Trent Whitfield, Brian Sutherby and Brooks Laich.

Among the new faces in camp this year are goaltenders Maxime Daigneault, Justin Eddy and free agent acquisitions defensemen Jeff Paul and Michel Periard.

All practices and scrimmages at the Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland Ice Arena and Biddeford Ice Arena are open to the public. Media access to players will occur approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of each day's final training session.

Tickets for the Pirates two home exhibition games on October 2 and 8 are on sale now. Fans can purchase individual tickets for just $5 (Captain's, Main, Quarter and Crow's Nest). Group tickets are also available for the exhibition games for $3 (Main, Quarter and Crow's Nest) by calling the Pirates at (207) 828-4665 x350. Individual tickets can be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office or by calling (207) 775-3458. Tickets will also be on sale at the Pirates "Welcome Back" party on September 29th from 5pm-8pm at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Pirates open the season at home on Saturday Night, October 16, Hockey Night in Portland at the Cumberland County Civic Center vs. the St. John's Maple Leafs. Pirates tickets, which are priced at $19, $15, $10, $6 can be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office beginning October 4th. The Pirates offer great group rates. The Pirates "Welcome Back" Party will include live entertainment, skating with the players, Score-O, and much, much more. The Pirates mascot Salty Pete will make his return from "rehab" with a new look and rejoin his sidekick Crackers at the party. The event will take place from 5pm-8pm at the Cumberland County Civic Center and will be free and open to the public. In addition to the fun and games, fans will be able to enjoy free hot dogs, popcorn, regular size soft drinks and Cannonballs from Shain's of Maine.
