
Pirates' Top Two Draft Picks To Join Spikes

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The State College Spikes will welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates' first two choices in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft to their ranks as right-handed pitchers Jameson Taillon and Stetson Allie will both start their professional careers in State College.
Taillon, the second overall pick in the draft, will arrive in Happy Valley on Friday. The right-hander will join Allie, the 52^nd overall draft choice, who arrived in State College on Thursday. Both pitchers will work out with the team throughout the remainder of the 2010 season.
The Pirates selected the 18-year-old Taillon out of The Woodlands (TX) High School just outside of Houston after a senior season in which he went 8-1 with a 1.78 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 62 innings of work. Taillon was also rated by /Baseball America/ as the best pitcher available in the draft and as the second-best overall player among the top 200 prospects in the country.
Allie was ranked by /Baseball America/ as the eighth-best prospect in the country prior to the draft coming out of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH. The 19-year-old went 9-1 in his senior season of high school ball, posting a 1.29 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 60 innings of work. Allie also led St. Edward to the Ohio Division I state championship.
