Portland Pirates News Release
Saco, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have recalled goalie Mike Lee from their ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators. The Pirates have also released goalie Peter Mannino from his Professional Tryout Contract.
Lee, a 6-foot-1, 190 pound native of Roseau, Minnesota, was assigned to Gwinnett on December 12. Since his assignment, the 24 year-old played in three games, posting a 1-2-0 record, a 3.38 goals against average, and a 0.880 save percentage. In his most recent start, Lee made 28 saves on 29 shots in a 5-1 win at home over the Orlando Solar Bears yesterday.
Prior to playing his first game this season with Gwinnett on December 13, Lee's last game action was for Portland on December 6, 2013. Since then, Lee has been working his way back to rehab from surgery for a lower-body injury.
Lee was selected in the Third Round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona Coyotes. He played three seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey at St. Cloud State University. Lee also represented Team USA when it won the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship.
He will be able to suit up for the first time in a Pirates uniform this season on December 27 when they take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center.
Mannino, a 6-foot-1, 195 pound native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, signed a professional tryout contract with Portland on November 18. Since then, he played in three games with a 0-1-0 record, a 2.34 goals against average, and a 0.919 save percentage. Mannino started one game for Portland, making 20 saves on 23 shots in a 3-2 defeat at the Dunkin Donuts Center against the Providence Bruins on December 7. He made relief appearances for the Pirates on December 12 at Providence and December 17 at home against Manchester.
Mannino previously played 15 games for the Pirates during the 2011-12 season. The 30 year-old is in his seventh professional season and has played a total of six NHL games for the New York Islanders, Atlanta Thrashers, and Winnipeg Jets. Before turning pro, he played four seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of Denver.
Portland is on the road for its next two games; this Saturday, December 27 against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 28 against the Manchester Monarchs at 3:00 p.m. You can hear all the action with the "Voice of the Pirates," Jeff Mannix, 20 minutes prior to game time on the WPEI Portland Pirates Radio Network at 95.9 and 95.5 FM, portlandpirates.com. and ahllive.com.
