Pirates president donates $5,000 to hurricane relief

NAPLES, Fla. - Pat Ward, President and Operator of the Peoria Pirates has announced a donation of $5,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund on behalf of Peoria's South Side Bank, where he serves as Chairman of the Board.

"South Side Bank and the Pirates are pleased to help the relief effort," Ward said. "I am hoping that Friday night's game can create a welcome diversion for the local residents and I'm glad that the Pirates can be a part of helping this community heal."

On Tuesday the af2 and Florida Firecats announced plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the 2004 ArenaCup to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The American Red Cross also plans to setup a station at Germain Arena during the game on Friday to accept additional donations.

"The Red Cross continues to work diligently to meet immediate disaster-related needs for all residents affected by Hurricane Charley," said Robin Wingate, executive director for the American Red Cross Lee County Chapter. "The generous financial support from the af2 and this event will enable us to continue doing what we do best - help the community in this time of great need. Their investment is commendable."
