June 26, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release
Coming off a 21 - 7 Friday night, the Pioneers were looking to sweep the 2 game set with the Watertown Wizards.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead. After Sal Pezzino [High Point] knocked in a run with a groundout, Ty Yesensky [Old Dominion] singled. Justin Lacy's double put both runners in scoring position and both came home when Aaron Hopper [Marietta College] roped a double to the gap in right center field. After Watertown second baseman Angel Rosa banged a home run to left to cut the lead to 3 - 1 the Pioneers added a pair on a groundout by Ryan Normoyle [Washington College] and a single by Justin Lacy.
Helped by a Pioneers error, the Wizards put a scare into the home crowd by scoring 3 runs in the ninth. But, Jon Koch [Arkansas State] came in and shut the door.
The Pioneers return to Dunn Field on Monday to take on Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. The next day the Pioneers begin a short two game series against Glens Falls Golden Eagles.
Tickets for all games can be purchased in advance from the Pioneers exclusive retail ticket outlet, Jubilee Foods at 2898 Westinghouse Road, Horseheads. For more information cal the Pioneers office at 607-734-2690 or visit www.elmirapioneers.com.
