Pioneers Start Building Roster

February 21, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) - Elmira Pioneers News Release

Now that spring training has started and pitchers and catchers have reported to Florida, the Elmira Pioneers have started to fill their roster for the 2011 season. The team's first two signings are Adam Davis and Dan Roland, both from the #23 ranked nationally (#2 ranked in the Northeast), St. John's University;

Roland, a catcher, was a 2010 All Long Island selection hitting hitting .554 with 4 HR's, 26 RBi's. He also threw out more tan 40% of would be base stealers. Davis, a right handed pitcher, was an All Conference pitcher (Wyoming, PA) with a 7-2 record in his senior year.

"Both guys were heavily recruited by one of the top college programs in the Northeast. Roland is a solid hitter, who makes contact and has some pop. He is also real strong behind the plate with an outstanding arm." said Head Coach Dan Shwam. "Davis is a strike thrower who sits at 88/89 with a nice breaking ball. We will have to see if he becomes a starter or a power arm out of the bullpen."

The Pioneers Opening Night is Thursday, July 9 versus the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. The first Thirsty Thursday of the year, with all drinks $1.00, will conclude with a Fireworks Show, presented by the City of Elmira.
