Western Mass Pioneers News Release
LUDLOW, Mass., April 28, 2010 - The Western Mass Pioneers have filled two more roster spots, as they prepare to undergo their inaugural year in the PDL. This week's featured signings are those of Ludlow's own Marco Gomes and Wilbraham's Greg Balicki.
Gomes, a product of the Junior Pioneers, is a defenseman whose fine foot skills and leadership qualities helped secure a WNEC-school-record 16 shutouts in his senior year of 2009. As a two-year captain of the Golden Bears, Marco earned All-Conference Performer honors in three seasons.
Balicki, a Wilbraham-Monson Academy standout, and senior at URI, will be slotted in the forward position. His career goals (65) and goals in a season (36) are each WMA records. Greg has an extensive array of honors throughout his soccer career, ranging from 2006 NSCAA All-America Team to three-time WNEPSSA All-Star.
General Manager Greg Kolodziey and the Pioneers continue to acquire the successes of young talent and dominating prowess as they prepare for their season opener, which will be held at Lusitano Stadium on May 15th. They will square off against Albany, with a start time of 7pm.
