Pioneers Say "Top of the Order to Ya"

March 17, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) - Elmira Pioneers News Release

The Elmira Pioneers announced the signing of two players they expect to be at the top of the order next season. BJ Willis from the #14 ranked perennial junior college powerhouse, Wabash County Community College and Chris Muscarello #10 ranked (Div III) Trinity University.

Willis, had an impressive freshman season hitting .434. This year he has picked right up where he left off; hitting .472, with 10 RBI's and 7 SB's in the teams first 12 games. "BJ can flat out play. He hits well and can run like crazy. The perfect leadoff man." said an enthusiastic Head Coach Dan Shwam.

Muscarello, a Arizona Div 4A All Star in 2010 is off to a fast start at nationally ranked Trinity University. In 16 games he is hitting .329 with 9 SB's. "We took advantage of the scouting reports we get from our league partner Perfect Game to pick up a real top of the order guy." said team GM Jeff Kunion. "One thing we did not have last year was a lot of speed. We made it a priority to find guys who can run, steal bases and turn singles into doubles.

The Pioneers Opening Night is June 9 versus the Coopertown Hawkeyes. It is the first Thirsty Thursday of the year, all drinks are $1.00. Enjoy the pregame concert and the postgame Fireworks Show, presented by the City of Elmira. "Lucky Fan" giveaways include the Allegiant Air Weekend Vacation to Orlando, an HD TV, a DVD player, a digital camcorder, jewelry, restaurant gift certificates and more.
