Pioneers plan AFL kickoff party

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will hold a kickoff party Sunday, February 2nd to celebrate the debut of the Arena Football League on NBC. Fans can join the celebration at Grotto Pizza, Wilkes-Barre Twp. (across from the Wyoming Valley Mall) starting at 2:00pm.
The Pioneers will offer several promotional and giveaway items during the scheduled contest between the New York Dragons and Jerry Jones' Dallas Desperados, including 2003 individual game tickets and a pair of season tickets for one lucky fan. The game between the Dragons and Dallas will have a touch of local flavor as well, since Pioneers' inaugural season kicker Jimmy Kibble has been named New York's opening-day starter.
"The time for Arena Football to rise to national prominence has arrived," said Wilkes-Barre/Scranton General Manager Rick Sneed. "I hope everyone comes to the party or at least tunes in to see what our sport is all about. Plus, with Jimmy playing in the game, our local fans have a little extra incentive to be a part of the celebration."
Aside from Kibble's promotion to the AFL, the Pioneers will also mark the occasion by unveiling the all-new 2003 Pony Express dance team. Five young ladies from last year's team have returned as co-captains. The remaining 10 to 12 spots will be decided at this Saturday's tryout at Pocono Downs.
"This is a great time for the Pioneers. The new Pony Express will be out in the community, and training camp is just six weeks away! To say we're excited right now is an understatement," added Sneed.
The Pioneers 2003 home opener will be Friday, April 11th against the Mohegan Wolves. Anyone interested in season, group, or individual game tickets may contact the Pioneers ticketing office at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848.
