Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Pioneers have added a pair of right handed pitchers for the 2015 season. Spencer Kulman (Wofford) and Erich Stahl (Kennesaw St. University) both bring a strikeout minded approach with them to Historic Dunn Field. The righties will look to pick up valuable innings with Elmira and continue building their game.
Kulman, who hails from Briarcliff Manor, NY is currently in his sophomore year with the Terriers. He was a four year letter winner at Briarcliff High School, going 5-2 with a 1.51 ERA and 89 K's in 60 innings pitched. Kulman has impressed many this season going 5-2 with a 4.25 ERA in 20 relief appearances for Wofford. He will be the fourth player on the current Wofford roster to spend the summer in Elmira. Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch has heard a lot of good things about Kulman from his coaches and went on to say, "Spencer is a player that is held in high regard by his coaches at Wofford. Wofford Assistant Coach JJ Edwards, a former 3-time Pio and member of the 2007 NYCBL Championship team, recommended Spencer and is confident that he {Kulman} will be among the league leaders in strikeouts by summer's end."
Stahl, who hails from Lilburn, GA is currently in his sophomore year at Georgia Perimeter College. The 5'11" righty is committed to Kennesaw St. University. Stahl was named the Georgia Class A Player of the Year following his senior year at Providence Christian Academy. He appeared in nine games as a freshman at Young Harris College working 12.1 innings and a 1.46 ERA. This season, Stahl has appeared in 17 games for the Jaguars going 1-1 with nine saves. He has struck out 32 batters in 23 innings with a 2.35 ERA.
"Erich is an athletic, strike throwing, right handed pitcher that is coming to Elmira to get innings. I like having Red-Shirt guys for the summer. They are typically no-nonsense, hard working individuals that understand how important a summer regiment is to ensure they stay on pace with their peers." Stated Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch when asked about gaining a player like Stahl.
The Pioneers kick off the 2015 season at home on Friday, June 5th against the Adirondack Trail Blazers and Saturday, June 6th against the Newark Pilots; first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. both nights. There will be a HUGE post game fireworks display to follow both games as well. Stay up-to-date with all of the latest team news and player signings via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
