Pioneers Overwhelm Wizards 18-0

August 2, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release

Led by Corey Keller and David Bishop, the Elmira Pioneers rolled over the Watertown Wizards 18-0 last night. The Pios did not begin their offensive barrage until the third inning when they scored three runs on RBI singles from Keller and Bishop sandwiched around a Zac Bellinger RBI groundout. Bishop picked up another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the Pioneers two run fifth.

That's when things started to spin out of control for Watertown. The Pioneers scored six times in the sixth inning, three times in the seventh and added four more runs in the eighth. Bishop and Keller both had homeruns, as did Justin Lamborn. Justin Lacy chipped in with a 2 run double and Ryan Normoyle had an RBI single. The Pioneers hit parade was lead by Corey Keller (5 hits and 5 RBI's), Ryan Normoyle (4 hits) and David Bishop (3 hits and 5 RBI's).

Overshadowed by the offensive onslaught was the stellar pitching of Mike Mahaffey. The righty improved his record to 3-0, tossing seven shutout innings. Matt Holling completed the shutout with two scoreless frames.

The Pioneers travel to Newark for a pivotal game with the Pilots this evening at 7:00. The team completes the regular season on Wednesday, August 3 at 5:05 with a doubleheader against the Cooperstown Hawkeyes.

Tickets are available from the Pioneers exclusive retail ticket outlet Jubilee Foods at 2898 Westinghouse Road, Horseheads.
