Pioneers Make Front Office Changes
The Elmira Pioneers, members of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, announced today that Executive Vice President & General Manager Pat McKernan will be taking a leave of absence from the team during the 2011 season.
"Pat has had some health issues that prevent him from working in Elmira this season. He requires kidney transplant surgery in the near future and will be convalescing at his home in Albuquerque. Our prayers are with him and we expect he will return to Elmira for the 2012 season.", stated Team President Jeff Kunion.
Kunion added, "You cannot replace the experience, leadership and management skills Pat brings to the ballpark. But, in baseball when the star is injured others have to step up and do the job."
Kunion will absorb the GM's responsibilities in 2011 and pass the Baseball Operations workload to Head Coach Dan Shwam. "Danny has been doing this for a long time. I expect the team we field in 2011 to be even stronger than last season's record setting club." said Kunion.
The Pioneers Opening Day is Thursday June 9 versus the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. There will be a Fireworks Show, presented by the City of Elmira, "lucky fan" giveaways including a weekend in Atlantic City, an HD TV, a DVD player, MP3 player, jewelry, restaurant gift certificates and more. We also kick off the second annual Party in the Park Concert Series.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Pioneers office at 607-734-2690. For more information visit www.elmirapioneers.com.
