Pioneers Look to Achieve 50 Points and Coach's 50th Win

(Wilkes-Barre, PA) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have scored 50 or more points in every one of their six games this season, accomplishing the best start in team history with an impressive 6-0 record. The Pioneers will attempt to gain more than 50 points for the seventh straight game and keep their winning record alive on Saturday as they face off against the Tennessee Valley Vipers (4-2). With a win the Pioneers will provide head coach Rich Ingold with his 50th win in the arenafootball2 league!
Coach Ingold will be one of four af2 head coaches to achieve 50 or more wins in their careers. Currently, Ingold has an overall record of 49-24. This is Ingold's fifth season as a head coach in the af2 and his teams have always qualified for the playoffs. His best season to date was 2002 with Quad City when the team was 14-3. The talent on this year's team could provide Ingold with his best season ever.
Pioneers QB Ryan Vena is a strong candidate for Offensive Player of the Year with the numbers he has already put up this season. Vena is ranked first in the league in both pass efficiency (135.8) and pass completion percentage (71.7%). He is also ranked in the top 10 for eight other statistical categories. In addition, Vena has rushed for the ball for six scores, thrown for 36 touchdowns and 1,519 yards, and has not thrown an interception all season!
The rest of the Pioneers roster has provided Ingold with impressive numbers as well. Pioneers K David Davis is ranked first in the league for PAT Kicking percentage with 94.0% by completing 47 of 50 attempts. The Pioneers defensive backs Chris Royal, TuTu Ferguson, and Pete McBride are ranked in the top five of various defensive categories resulting in the Pioneers being ranked second in the league for Scoring Defense and Redzone Defense. When you couple the strong secondary with the fierce pass rush of Doug Harding it makes for a very formidable defense.
