Pioneers Get Season Underway
LUDLOW, Mass., May 13, 2010 - As their inaugural season in the PDL reveals itself, the Western Mass Pioneers are primed and ready to take charge. Visiting Albany BWP Highlanders will visit Lusitano Stadium on Saturday, May 15th at 7pm to kickoff the 2010 regular season. Sunday (5/16) will play host to an away game whereas the Pioneers will travel to Maine to square off against Portland MPS - this game gets underway at 4pm.
Fans are encouraged to attend Saturday's event in Ludlow, which will hold an historic moment in Western Mass Soccer history, the debut of the team in the PDL. The Pioneers will be facing familiar foes this year, such as Long Island and Vermont. The game also counts as a U.S. Open Cup qualifier. The Pioneers will want to start out hot to clinch a berth.
This past Tuesday's Media Night was held at Lusitano Stadium for a dry run of what's to come during the regular season. Pioneer players had a photo session and were made available to answer questions from area press coverage that was on hand. Fans who attended were able to see a slice of the new look Pioneers, as Coach Leszek Wrona facilitated a series of scrimmages and position-exclusive drills on a cool May evening.
The Red, White, and Black appear fleet of foot and quite prepared to welcome the competition throughout the 16-game regular PDL season. There are some familiar faces returning to this year's lineup, as well as a slew of younger talent that look to carry the tradition of a winning and driven soccer club.
