Pioneers dominate Wings

In the first ever meeting between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers and Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings, the Pioneers downed the Battle Wings 50-28 in front of a roaring crowd of 6,248 fans at the Wachovia Arena. Pioneers' QB Ryan Vena threw for 263 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for two more scores on the night. The Battle Wings' QB Quincy Carter finished the game with 247 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions in a losing effort.

The Pioneers' defense was led by U.S. Army Ironman of the Game, LB Doug Harding, and DB Chris Royal who had three interceptions during the night; adding to his previous season total of 11 making him the ADT Defensive Player of the Game. The Battle Wings were led by Schutt Offensive Player of the Game Jamaal Perry who caught 10 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Perry also added 108 return yards giving him a total of 290 all purpose yards. Pioneers receivers Buchie Ibeh and Tyreak Saviour combined for 11 catches, 167 yards, and three touchdowns

The Pioneers' and Battle Wings' defenses both played exceptionally well in the fourth quarter, however the Pioneers sealed the victory after kicker David Davis' missed field goal was recovered by C Beau Elliott on the Battle Wings' five yard line. The Pioneers next drive resulted in the only score of the fourth quarter.

With the win the Pioneers improve their record to a league best 14-1 while the Battle Wings fall to 10 -5. The Pioneers will finish out the 2007 regular season next week as they visit their division opponents the Albany Conquest.
