Pioneers Corner the Infield

March 24, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) - Elmira Pioneers News Release

The Elmira Pioneers announced this afternoon that they have signed three corner infielders; Justin Lacy (Longwood University), Ty Yesensky (Old Dominion University) and Sal Pezzino (High Point University).

Lacey, a power hitting first baseman, is hitting .319 with 4 HR's and 174 RBI's in 23 games. "Justin is going to be the big bopper in the middle of our lineup. There is a lot of juice in his swing." commented Head Coach Dan Shwam.

Yesensky, from nearby Endwell, was an All New York State selection in 2010. The freshman has had limited playing time at ODU hitting .214 in spot duty. "We think Ty has great potential. This summer he should get the at bats he needs to bloom into a solid player." said Shwam.

Pezzino, a Long Island native, is hitting .311 playing both 1B & 3B. "Sal is a 3 year starter who will gives us a quality player at either corner. He is a line drive hitter who knows how to get on base." stated GM Jeff Kunion.

The Pioneers Opening Night is June 9 versus the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. It is the first Thirsty Thursday of the year and all drinks are $1.00. Enjoy the pregame concert and the postgame Fireworks Show, presented by the City of Elmira. "Lucky Fan" giveaways include the Allegiant Air Weekend in Orlando, an HD TV, a DVD player, a digital camcorder, restaurant certificates and more.
