Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

(Wilkes-Barre, PA) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are excited to announce the assignment of two very talented players. University of Pittsburgh WR Marcus Furman and University of Virginia FB/LB Merrill Robertson are the newest additions to the Pioneers' Organization.

Marcus Furman is a 5' 9" 185lb. graduate of Connellsville High School in Connellsville, PA where he accumulated a total of 5,041 career yards. He was a true freshman RB for the Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2001 season where he played in eight regular-season games in addition to the Visit Florida Tangerine Bowl. In his senior year with the Panthers Furman contributed as a kick returner and reserve tailback totaling six kick returns for 94 yards.

Merrill Robertson is a 6' 2" 265lb. FB/LB from Richmond, VA. In his senior season with the University of Virginia Cavaliers Robertson played in all 14 games and totaled 122 tackles; 74 were unassisted and 9 were for a total loss of 36 yards. In addition, Robertson had a total of 5 unassisted sacks on the season. He placed second on the team for both total tackles and total sacks. Robertson also recovered two fumbles on the year. In 2006, he played with the AFL's Dallas Desperados where he recorded 4 tackles and 1 sack.

"We're very excited to get two very versatile players that come from two big time programs. Marcus is extremely quick and fast, I got him clocked at sub 4.4. He will be very difficult to handle in Arena Football. I am very familiar with Merrill from my time spent with the Dallas Desperados. With the rule changes, his athletic ability, and his high motor I see him being a dominate edge pass rusher for the Pioneers in 2007," stated Coach Rich Ingold about his newest players.
