Elmira Pioneers News Release
The Elmira Pioneers announced today that they have signed Larry Van Allen to replace Gabe Memmert as the team's hitting coach. Van Allen played professionally for 6 teams during his 9 year career. The Grambling University alumni has previously coached for Pioneers Skipper Dan Shwam with the Laredo Broncos (United League) and Can Am Grays (Can-Am League). He has also coached the last three years at Warren Central HS in Vicksburg, MS.
"We are sorry to lose Gabe. He had a chance to continue his playing career and he decided he was not ready to leave the playing field. We wish him luck but, we are fortunate to have Larry to step in. He has shown the ability to analyze your approach, break down your swing and improve your performance at the plate." said Head Coach Dan Shwam. "He is also a great person for our kids to learn from, on and off the field."
